William Lewis (W.L.) Warden, 90 years old of Green Valley went to his Heavenly family on July 14, 2023. A prominent businessman and civic leader in our community, W.L. was raised in his families' business, Warden's Market Inc., a modern grocery and hardware store. He was a charter member and chief of the Green Valley Fire Department. W.L. was born in Montcalm on April 5, 1933 and was the son of the late Thomas Andrew Warden, Sr. and Eva Mae Slusser Warden. He had been a resident of Mercer County throughout his entire life. W.L. was a proud graduate of Bramwell High School, class of 1952 where he was a member of the 1949 football "Dream Team." He served in the Korean War with the 304th Signal Corps, then returned stateside and continued with the 150th National Guard Unit in Bluefield. He rose to the rank of E-5 Sergeant earning a good conduct medal and honorable discharge with a total of nine years and three months served. W.L. was a Master Mason with Bluefield Mercer Lodge 85 and 32 Scottish Rite Mason in Bluefield. W.L. met and married Brenda Marlene Marshall Warden and moved to Rainbow Road in Green Valley where they raised four children. W.L. and his wife were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Bluefield, VA.
W.L. was recently preceded in death by his beloved wife, Brenda Warden; son and granddaughter, Mark and Saybella Warden; first grandson, Michael Sarver.
Those left to cherish his memory are Donna Warden of Green Valley, Jeffrey and Lisa Warden of Sandlick, Sabrina Warden and fiancé' David Rose of Princeton; grandchildren, Laurie Sarver, Wills and Brendan Warden, Kaila Harden and fiancé' Dallas Denny, Kyle Johnston, Tarah Clark, and Briana Clark; great-grandchildren, Nadia and Terry Reed, Noah Denny, Emma and Eliza White.
The Warden family will receive friends on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV from 10AM-11AM. Funeral services with begin at 11AM with Bishop Mead officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Roselawn Cemetery. Family will serve as pallbearers.
