Obituary

Sylvia Rae Spooner, aged 74, of Princeton, WV, passed away peacefully with her loving husband by her side on May 22, 2026.

She was born on November 10, 1951, in Westminster, Colorado to Gustave and Emma Beckner. Growing up, she made beautiful memories visiting her many aunts and uncles, and her favorite niece Laura. She had a close bond with her older brother and enjoyed spending time with her dog Fräulein. It was during her formative years, her lifelong love for animals began. It later led her to opening her pet store, "All About Pets," where she dedicated her career to helping all pets thrive. She spent countless hours educating her staff and community on pet nutrition and wellness to help every pet lead a healthy and happy life. She loved traveling to pet shows and conventions, as well as spending time with her own pets.

She was a woman of many talents and endless energy. In their spare time, she and her husband Steven, teamed up to build and remodel houses, turning older structures into beautiful homes with their shared vision and hard work. When they weren't building, or working, they were often on the open road. She loved exploring the country in their RV, chasing new adventures, visiting family, enjoying friends and nature. Her hobbies were scrapbooking, making quilts and handbags, as well as other crafts.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by brothers William and Ronald.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Spooner; daughter Melissa Ford; granddaughters Stephanie, Nicolle, Teresa, and Emily, as well as 5 great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026 at First Christian Church (805 Straley Avenue) in Princeton, WV, from 6 P.M. - 8 P.M. In honor of her life's work, and love of animals, donations may be made to your local spay/neuter clinic in lieu of flowers.
