Obituary

Susan Samantha Myers Perry, 58, of Montcalm, WV passed March 24, 2025, at WVU – Princeton Community Hospital after a long illness.  Born March 7, 1967, in Bluefield Hospital to the late William "Bill" & Nancy Myers of Montcalm, WV.  Samantha was a 1985 graduate of Montcalm High School & Bluefield State College (now Bluefield State University).  She was a lifelong resident of Montcalm where she resided with her loving husband of 33 years, Joe Perry, and two fur babies Bear & Cassie, who never left her side.  She loved gardening and spending time with her animals.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Myers in 2018 and grandparents Elliott and Dorothy "Dot" Garrett of Montcalm.

In addition to her husband, those left to cherish her memory are sisters Pam (Allen) Krondon, Duhring, WV; Ann (David) White, Princeton, WV; brother Ed (Anita) Myers, Princeton, WV, sister-n-law Sherry Myers, Pelham, AL and Aunt Virginia Carolee Crosen of Bluefield, WV;  nieces and nephews Rusty (Erika) Krondon, Shawn(Sara) Krondon, Jennifer (Clayton) Scott, Jason (Nathalia) Myers, April (Ben) Nance, Brittny (Josh) Honaker, Heather (Heath) Osburn, Brandon and Braxton White, Robby Hicks and Robby Hicks, Jr; several great nieces and nephews and special friends Barbara Lewis and Becky Barnette.

Samantha was an avid animal lover and devoted many hours of fundraising to the local animal shelters.  The annual "Little Jimmy" Community Christmas Tree campaign was very dear to her heart, and she was dedicated to seeing its success each year.

Samantha dedicated her life to her journalism career at the Bluefield Daily Telegraph (BDT) where she worked for over 30 years until her retirement.  She began her career as a stringer becoming a permanent employee as a reporter in 1989 thus beginning her long and distinguished career as a journalist.   She was promoted to Lifestyles editor eventually advancing to managing editor in 2001.  After the BDT was purchased by CNHI in 2019, Samantha served as the company's regional editor for its Georgia, Florida, and Bluefield markets.  She was extremely proud to serve as Editor of the Prerogative Women's Magazine which started publication in 2007.  Perry was the recipient of several local and national awards.

Many enjoyed and looked forward to reading her editorials which often were of her own life experiences, lessons learned and the happy times growing up in the family home with her siblings, parents, and grandparents in Montcalm, WV.

An amazing wife, sister, and aunt who will be missed dearly by her family and friends but will forever be remembered by her beautifully written stories, lives she touched, and the many friendships developed over the years.
