Robert "Bob" Asbury Jr., 83, of Raysal, West Virginia, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on March 17, 2020 in Mooresville, NC. He was born August 14, 1936 to the late Robert "Monk" Asbury Sr. and Lillian Clasby Asbury, also of Raysal. Mr. Asbury was a United States Army Veteran, having honorably served during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a meat cutter after graduating from the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. He was a certified mine foreman and worked in the coal mines in Virginia and West Virginia. Mr. Asbury was a member of the Masonic Order, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a lifelong supporter of the ASPCA and St. Jude's Children's Hospital. He was an avid gardener and was well known for the wonderful vegetables he raised.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Asbury was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Graham Asbury, his great- grandson Paxton, his sister Helen Lingle, and his beloved dog Beth. He is survived by his five loving daughters: Desiree Asbury Young and husband Dwight of Lexington, NC; Candace Asbury Vangile and husband Simon of Mooresville, NC; Nerissa Asbury Kennedy and husband George of Thomasville, NC; Heather Asbury and fiancé Jimmy Sparks of Grundy, VA; and Chantel Asbury Estep and husband Keith of Mooresville, NC. Mr. Asbury is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Danielle Asbury Smith and husband Scottie; Camille Asbury Bailey, Alyssa Young, Brittani Young Gaither and husband Mitch; Dominique Young, John Robert Thomas and wife Becky; Hilarie Thomas, Chelsea Thomas and Devon; Nicavee Kennedy, Jacob Blankenship, Landyn Blankenship, Madalyn Vangile, and Corinne Vangile, as well as 8 great-grandchildren, sister Bobbie Hughes of Abingdon, VA, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Per Mr. Asbury's request, no services will be held. He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife Betty at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV. A memorial service for family will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend their greatest appreciation to Denise and Amber of Hospice of Iredell County, NC, for their care and support.
