Mrs. Patricia Carolyn Irvin Shumate 78 of Bluefield passed away Saturday September 21, 2019 at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness.She was born April 15, 1941 in Mercer County to the late William and Ona Mae Ratliff Irvin.Mrs. Shumate was a member of Calvary Baptist Church until it closed and then attended Edgemont Baptist Church in Bluefield.She enjoyed cooking, attending church, sending cards to cheer others up or brighten their day, and being with her friends and family especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Tommy Irvin, and a sister Onita Shumate.Survivors include her husband of 55 years Kenneth Shumate of the Residence, two daughters, Beth Himelright and husband Bill of Strasburg, VA and Kim Staggs and husband Bill of Springfield, VA, one brother Donald Irvin of Bluefield, Five grandchildren Jessica, Jonathan, and Stephen Kloosterman, Hannah and Tabitha Staggs.

A Celebration of Patricia's Life will be held 2:00pm Wednesday September 25, 2019 at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Hugh Cole.Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery, Princeton.Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until time of the service on Wednesday.
