Obituary

In Loving Memory of Patricia Mitchell Putiyon

Patricia Putiyon, age 80, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, peacefully passed away on May 5, 2026. Born on July 6, 1945, in Hemphill, West Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of the late Mary Shoemaker Mitchell and Matt H. Mitchell. Patricia was a woman of immense warmth and creativity. She spent countless hours crafting beautiful quilt blankets, which she gave away freely to bring comfort and warmth to many. Having lived across the globe, she also became an amazing cook who mastered all kinds of food from different ethnicities. Her kitchen was always open, and you never left her home hungry. As the wife of a United States Coast Guard member, Patricia embraced a life of adventure, raising her family all over the world. The family eventually settled in Dale City, Virginia, where she settled into community life. Her family was her ultimate pride and joy. She raised four wonderful children with immense love, guidance, and patience, always willing to fight fiercely for them. She possessed a wonderful, innate ability to keep the peace and bring harmony to her home. Upon retirement, Patricia returned to her roots in West Virginia, making her home in Shady Spring, before moving to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for her final few years to be close to family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law, Johnny Daderio and John O'Neal, and her beloved nephew, Matt Mitchell. She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Ricardo Putiyon Sr. She is also survived by her devoted children: Ricardo II (Pam) Putiyon of Fredericksburg, VA; Jeff (Ceda) Putiyon Manassas, VA; Mark (Kim) Putiyon Montclair, VA; and S. Darlene (Charles) McNeel Beaver, WV. Patricia leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Ricardo III, Lauren, Patricia, Matthew, Stephen, Joseph, Jonathan, Richie, Kristin, and Rachel; as well as her 9 adored great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving siblings: Shirley Daderio, Ann O'Neal, and Matt Mitchell Jr., along with many beloved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local Hospice organization. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the nurses and family members who provided care and support throughout this journey. We are looking forward to celebrating the life of Patricia who was known as “Mom”, “Sister”, “Granny”, and “GiGi” to many.

In keeping with her wishes, a memorial service will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 13 at 11:00AM.
