Obituary


Oreda Kay Hamm, age 76 of Princeton, WV died August 31, 2024 at her home following a long illness. A loving mother, sister, and grandmother. She will be missed for her sense of humor, kindness, and love for always helping others.

Born August 9, 1948 in Bluefield, WV, she is the daughter of the late Clyde and Rosalie Carrol Blackmon. She was a member of Mapleview Church of Christ for many year. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, the late Bobby Gene Hamm.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hamm Welch of Madison, North Carolina; son, Bobby Lee Hamm of Princeton, WV; four grandchildren, Christopher Hamm, Teresa Rae Manning, Taylor Hamm, and Jared Hamm; three siblings, Mary Crigger, Shirley Grim, and  William "Elmer" Blackmon; brother-in-law, Jerry Hamm; seven nieces, Sandra, Pamela, Jill, Tracy, Amanda, Alicia, Jenna, and the late Sherry Crigger); two nephews, Terry and Casey; and one great nephew, Enzo.

Oreda worked At Bluefield Sanitarium Hospital as a nurse in 1968 shortly after graduating from high school. In the early 1970's she began working at Princeton Community Hospital  in the Anesthesia Department until 2010 when she retired. She loved her family and church family. She enjoyed the beach, taking trips and the many adventures celebrating life. She was always giving and serving others. She had joy always looking up towards the clouds and discovering what she may find. The day she left this world she finally found in the clouds what she had been longing to see.

The family will receive friends Friday, September 6, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Roselawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 pm, Saturday, September 7, 2024 with Tony Reed and Jeremiah Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, WV. Christopher Hamm, Jared Hamm, Casey Hamm, Jerry Hamm, Mike Boothe, and James Reed will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and Amedisys Hospice Care of Bluefield, WV.
