Opal Juanita Sawyers ended her wonderful 91-year journey in this life on July 14, 2020 in a personal-care home surrounded by her loving family and very special caregivers, Marlene Blankenship and Shannon Robinette.Opal was born in Kimball, WV on January 18, 1929, and resided there until moving to Princeton, WV in her later years.Opal's talents and hobbies were many, but her two greatest passions were her family and the life experiences she gained while traveling with her special sister-in-law, Pat Sawyers of Charlotte, NC.Opal was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ed Sawyers and her parents, Victoria and Thomas Greathead; sisters, Doris Turner, Mary Stanley, Evelyn Greathead; brothers, Bill Greathead, Sam Greathead, Concklin Greathead, and a very special nephew, Chad Blackburn.She is survived by her loving daughter and husband Darlene and Wayne Goodson; two grandsons who she loved very much, Scott Goodson of Beckley, WV andEd Goodson and wife Dawna Goodson of Peytona, WV, two great-grandchildren; Lacey and Ashton Goodson, who affectionately called her Mee-maw and several nieces and nephews.Opal always enjoyed visiting with two special nieces; Dreama and Carol, their visits were filled with old family photos and reminiscing about days gone by.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Opal Sawyers will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery at 1:00 PM on Friday July 17, 2020.Pastor Dan Jividen will be officiating the service for family and close friends.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Immanuel Baptist Church in Princeton, WV.
