Obituary

Nancy Jairel Rule joined her partner in life, William Max Rule, on May 30, 2025. She passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with family. I'm sure Max greeted her with "What the hell took you so long!" A celebration of life will be held in Roanoke and an announcement
will be made over Facebook to close friends and family.

Nancy worked 41 years for Civil Service in several capacities. First as an administrative assistant for the Army in Newport News, VA at Fort Monroe and Fort Eustice. In 1978 moving to Wise, VA she worked for the Mine Safety Health Administration for a short stent then the final
years with Social Security Administration where she retired in 2006. Mom still had very close friends from both places that were near and dear to her heart.

Nancy was a caregiver retiring to care for her husband, with Alzheimer's, and her Mother, with dementia. Caring for both at the same time was no easy task however, she was a very strong woman and did it so eloquently. Nancy was known for her caring heart and helped so many
people throughout her life's journey. She had a great outlook on life, never met a stranger, loved people, and enjoyed laughing, talking, and telling stories. Her motto "I can live in harmony with anyone that can live in harmony with himself."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason Jairel Harvey and Hazel Irene Wyrick Harvey, and husband, William Max Rule.

Survivors include daughter Robin Renee Lowery and husband Brian of Roanoke, Va.; one grandson Jacob Underwood, wife Courtney Underwood, and two great granddaughters Lily and Amelia Underwood; one step-grandson Christopher Lowery; one step-granddaughter Ashley and step great-granddaughter Chloe; two brothers Donald Harvey of Newport News, Va and Douglas Harvey of Millboro, VA; one sister-in-law Peggy Rule of Waynesboro, Va; one brother-in-law Frank Rule and Niece Gayla Rule Harvey "whom Nancy should have been her Mother;" and a
host of relatives and special friends.

A special "Thank You" to the Medi Home Health & Hospice team who gave exceptional care to my Mother and supporting Brian and I in her care. She was able to pass away gracefully and peacefully with no pain or suffering. A special "Thank You" to Dr. Craig Mitchell who led us to
the services of Medi Home Health & Hospice program.
