Mary Katherine
Scott Mosko
October 1, 1937 – February 17, 2023
Mary Katherine Scott Mosko passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Hubbard House in Charleston, WV after a brief illness. She was born at home on October 1, 1937 in Eckman, West Virginia, weighing just over 2 lbs. She was placed in a shoe box by the coal stove in a company house, where she was cared for until she was stronger. Mary was educated in Keystone and Northfork in McDowell County until her senior year, when she transferred to Tazewell High School in Virginia, and graduated in 1955. She married Charles Edward Mosko, son of John P. and Anna Mosko of Kimball, WV on August 30, 1958. Mary attended McLains Business College in Bluefield, WV and spent the majority of her career with Social Security Administration in Welch.
She lived in and was an active member of the Welch community for over forty years, leading troops of Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, sponsoring little league cheerleading squads, supporting the Welch High School and Mount View High School Football Boosters, and volunteering for other organizations. She sang alto in the First Baptist Church of Welch choir, where she was a member and baptized. She also served on the Deaconess Board for a number of years, and was a member of The Remnants, a gospel quartet. Mary K. and Ed moved to Bluefield, WV in 2002, where she was active in Trinity Methodist Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, and National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). In 2018, they moved to Winfield, WV, where she resided with her daughter, Sharon, until her passing. She loved flowers and could grow anything inside and outside of the house.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Aura Ellen Scott, and father, William Armstead Scott, of Farmville, VA. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Bruce Scott of Hendersonville, Tennessee. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward; her son Maj. Stacy A. She is also survived by her sister, Gladys Fortune of Bluefield, WV; sister-in-law Mitzi Romeo of Bluefield, WV; brother-in-law Dr. James Mosko of Pensacola, FL; and sister-in-law Shirley Hillyer of Princeton, WV.
Mary believed the only things that matter when you pass are whom you love, who loved you, and what you did for God. She will be greatly missed by all. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. on Friday, February 24th at Roselawn Funeral Home & Cemetery in Princeton WV. Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. with burial immediately following.
