Marie Shaughnessy Hughes, age 82, passed peacefully from this life into Heaven on December 19, 2023. She was born to the late Edward Shaughnessy and Scottie Nash on March 22, 1941 in Long Island, NY.

She is survived by her daughters Cathy Foreman (Bill) and Cynthia Kimball (Russ); sisters Marcia Meyer and Johanna Daniels (Brian); life-long friend, Wilma Bowling; as well as 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren all of whom are left to hold her in heart and memory.

Marie graduated from Princeton High School in 1959. Though she went on to live many places including Guam, Mississippi, and San Diego, CA, she enjoyed returning to her Alma Mater and celebrating at several class reunions. She had stellar career in banking and retired as a Vice President and Auditor for Security Bank and Trust in Washington, DC.

Marie, known for her stubborn personality and as one who did not shy away from giving her opinion, was unquestionably committed to her Baptist faith. She was a devoted Washington Redskins fan and well-known patron at The Village Barn. But, she will also be remembered for being a friend and one who enjoyed having a good time, especially on trips to Ocean City, MD and The Great Smokey Mountains when her daughters were small. She aptly met her Senior Yearbook prevision, "Beware, she may do somethin startling yet."

A celebration of her life will be held on April 12, 2024 at the Roselawn Cemetery Chapel, 450 Courthouse Rd. Princeton, WV 24740 at 12:00 p.m. with The Rev. Dr. Dan R. Jividen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's memory to the American Stroke Foundation or Dementia Society of America.
