Lucy Rebecca Mitchem, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Friday April 10th 2020 at the age of 88. She was a resident of Gray TN where she was a member of Boones Creek Freewill Baptist Church and previously resided in Keystone WV where she was a member of Burke Baptist Church. She was born on February 20, 1932 in Pageton WV, to the late Thomas and Susie Cochran.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband William "Bill" Mitchem, one brother Lloyd Cochran, five sisters Vannie Roark, Virginia Wright, Hazel Henry, Gladys Sexton,Leola Lawson, and also dear friends of many years Earl and Irene Boyd. Survivors include her brother Frank Cochran of Slidell, LA (formerly Princeton WV), son William "Billy" Mitchem and wife Diana of Bristol TN, daughter Donna Hatcher and husband Bob of Slidell LA, Grandson Justin "J.D." Hatcher and wife Melena of Slidell LA, Great Granddaughters Juliana and Macie Hatcher, sisters in law Wanda Reynolds, Norma Lee Jackson, Hilda Bailey (Robert), Leora Mitchem, and Shirley Mitchem, dear friends Lois and Dean Fannon, as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews who all loved their "Aunt Lucy".
Lucy's life revolved around her family and friends. Throughout her life she had many neighbors who she was very close to whether on Brick Row in Keystone, on Boone Lake in Gray, and her fellow snow birds that she and Bill spent winters with in Florida. Lucy enjoyed her time at her home on Boone Lake where she loved the view from her back porch and boat dock and also hosted many family and friends. She also had a passion for travel taking RV trips throughout the country and frequently returning to West Virginia to visit and help care for family.In her later years she enjoyed taking cruises in both the Caribbean and Alaska alongside family and friends.
Lucy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother known as "Meme" to all those who knew her through her grandson.Over the last 3 years Lucy was in the continuous loving care of her daughter Donna, sharing time between her home in Louisiana and Lucy's homes in Tennessee and Florida. The love she showed for her extended family was reciprocated as many nieces and nephews often visited and helped with her care. A special thank you to Barbara Van Zant for her friendship and assistance in Lucy's care.
Due to the current health crisis a memorial will be held at a later date to celebrate Lucy's life. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Frye, Dustin Howell, Jerry Keyes, Bob Justice, Tony Powers, and James Simpson.
