Kenneth Dean Shumate, age 86 of Bluefield, WV passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at his home. Born January 17, 1937 he was a son of the late Elisha and Sallie Burton Shumate. Kenneth was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church until it closed, and it was then he attended Edgemont Baptist Church in Bluefield, WV. Kenneth was a proud veteran of the United States Marines. He loved being outside doing yard work, and as long as he was physically able, he ran around playing with his grandchildren. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Shumate; sisters, Doris Shumate, Neda Mae Shumate, Evelyn Martin, Anna Ruth Fisher, and Mary Higgins; brothers, Bernard Shumate, Harold Shumate, Ray Shumate, Alfred Shumate, Ralph Shumate and Glen Shumate.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Beth Himelright and husband, Bill, and Kim Staggs and husband, Bill; grandchildren, Jessica Baker and husband Chris, Jonathan Kloosterman, Stephen Kloosterman, Hannah Staggs, and Tabitha Staggs; one great granddaughter, Kit Kloosterman.

The family will receive friends at 12:00PM Monday, December 18, 2023 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV with services beginning at 1:00PM with Pastor Hugh Cole officiating. Graveside services will immediately follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, WV. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
