Jesse E. Ashley, age 84, of Rock, WV, met the Lord on August 21, 2021.
Jesse was born and raised in Affinity, WV.He was the son of the late Jesse Odell Ashley and Dorothy Louise (nee Blevins) Ashley.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Francis Elaine Herndon.
Jesse left home for a distinguished career of more than 23 years in the United States Air Force.Jesse was the recipient of the Air Force Longevity Service Award with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Good Conduct Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Meritorious Service Medal.Jesse retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant E-7.He served 18 of his 23 years with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
After retiring from the service, Jesse moved back to Lashmeet, WV.He subsequently retired from St. Luke's Hospital, Bluefield, WV after 18 years as a computer operator.
Jesse was a member of the Grace Church in Lashmeet.He loved his Lord and Savior, his family, and his country.In his free time, Jesse enjoyed running, bowling, volunteering at Shepherd's Hand, family gatherings, and watching West Virginia football games.
Jesse is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Iris (nee Blevins) Ashley; two children, Mark (Leslie) Ashley and Vicki (David) Shrader; six grandchildren:Matthew (Bridgett), Sara (Kevin), Kaycee (Matt), Marissa (Matthew), Justin (Jillian), and Zachary (Tyler); nine great-grandchildren:Austin, Beau, Addy, Benjamin, Hunter, Wyatt, Ellie, Esther, and Malachi; two nieces, Pam Burns and Danielle Thayer; lifelong best friend, Gary Harrison; and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, WV 24740.A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM.Interment Roselawn Cemetery.
