On Thursday, February 20, 2020, Janie Alberta Rozzel, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her, left this life and entered her Heavenly home at the age of 65.
Janie was born on May 16, 1954 in Bluefield, WV to the late Douglas and Alberta Rozzel. After graduating from Bluefield High School, She attended Little French Beauty Academy were she received her cosmetology license, and later attended Bluefield State College earning an Associates Degree in Social Work. Working with children was a lifelong passion of Janie's that included years of work with CASE, Head Start, and carried over into her role of loving grandma.
Always the life of any gathering, Janie was known for her one of a kind fashions, many of which she designed herself, and dance moves that brought even the shyest of people to their feet. She was a stunning beauty with an amazing voice. She loved to sing and bring happiness to those around her.
Janie was the embodiment of selflessness and strength and loved her family immensely. Janie had a zest for life that was unmatched, was strong in her faith, and made the best out of anything life sent her way. Her positivity and joy were unparalleled. Her radiance left a lasting impression on all who were lucky enough to have known her.Her beauty and loving spirit will live in our hearts forever.
Janie was preceded in death by her father, Douglas Rozzel Sr., mother Alberta Rozzel, sister Gertrude "Nee-Nee" Bryant, and brother James "Chunky" Lewis. She is survived by her children, Reevie Willis and son-in-love Obbie Jr. of Kansas City, MO, Gillis Walker Jr. and companion Leslie of Bluefield, WV, and Justin Walker and daughter-in-love Njeri of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Obbie III, Jaslon, Zachary, Makayla, Gerrias, Gillis "Tres" III, Zion, Dreyson, Zari, Garren, Zade, and Gunner; ex-husband and special friend, Gillis Walker Sr. of Bluefield, WV; step-daughter Mia Scott of Hickory NC, and step-granddaughter London, brothers Claude Lewis and wife Gwen of Paterson, NJ, and Douglas Rozzel Jr. and wife Rachel of Bluefield, WV; sisters Michelle Armstead and husband Gary of Bluefield, WV, and Gail Rozzel of Bluefield, WV. Janie will also be forever remembered by a host of her nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
While her departure leaves a void that will never be filled, her death is not the end -- it is merely an intermission. We will dance and sing together again one day.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020,at 1PM at the Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV.The family will receive friends from 12-1PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
