Obituary

Edgar Augdon Thomure (Rusty) of Lerona, WV took his peaceful journey to his heavenly home on January 25, 2025 at the age of 95. Rusty was born September 22, 1929 in Mine La Motte, MO. He met his beautiful bride Elizabeth Ann Jones, a Bluefield, WV native, at a bus stop in Norfolk, VA. They married on February 22, 1953, at Central Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA, binding together with a love and commitment that has endured for nearly 72 years. He was blessed with two sons Stephen Wayne Thomure and Ronald Eugene Thomure. His greatest loss in this life
was losing his son "Stevie" to a car accident in 1971. He considered himself blessed to live next door to his son "Ronnie", whom he dearly loved, for the last 42 years.

Rusty was the son of the late Mattie Hadalene Wiggs Thomure and Daniel Jerry Thomure of Hannibal, MO. He was the fourth of twelve children. He served in the US Navy as a Machinist Mate 3 from 1947 to 1954 protecting our freedoms and fighting bravely in the Korean War upon the USS Missouri. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal as well as the Navy Occupation Service Medal.

Rusty had a reputation of excellence in his trade of welding and worked until the age of 78. His wife and his family were his motivation and zeal for life. He greatly enjoyed singing, fishing, gardening, working hard, feeding the wildlife, and hunting mushrooms. He also loved a good story, long chats, a boisterous laugh, meeting new people, sitting on the front porch, helping his neighbors and giving to those in need. Rusty was baptized March 29, 1961 at Falls Mills Christian Church. His life was a testament of the truly transformative power of the love of Jesus Christ and he was a faithful member of Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens, WV.

Having lived a long and fruitful life he suffered the loss of many before him. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his eldest son Stephen Wayne, his daughter-in-law Johnnye June, his dear Uncle Walt and Aunt Genny, his siblings Fielding Frazer, Ambrose Forest, Betty Lou, Daisy Louise, Walter William "Bib", John Wayne, Linda Kay, Raymond Howard, Darrell Lee, and little Beulah as well as many, many family and close friends he held dear.

He is survived by the love of his life, Elizabeth Thomure, and his beloved son Ronald Thomure and wife Annette as well as one sibling, Barry Van Kent Thomure. Rusty's grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchild were the greatest joy of his life. He is survived by his trusty sidekick, Michelle Thomure and husband Randy Maxwell, Amanda Dowdy "Mandie Booger" and husband Darin Dowdy, whom he loved like a son, and Miss Bella Thomure. His great grandchildren Stevi Janning and husband Caleb, Trent, Emma, Rainan, Trey, Liz, Levi, and Sam as well as one great-great grandchild, Elijah. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews with special regard to his close niece Theresa Briscoe and her husband David and his close nephew Jeffrey Smashey and wife Penny.

The family extends much appreciation and gratitude to the staff of The Haven's at Princeton as well as Heritage Hall in Rich Creek, VA where he received excellent care and special recognition of his personal caregivers Punkin, Katrina, Mayhem and Jackie for taking great care of him in his time of need. Thank you Deborah Preston of Heritage Hall for your attentive, tender, loving care in the last hours of his journey home.
