Obituary

Douglas Floyd "Doug" Smith, 81 of Athens, WV went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2025. Born May 7, 1944 he was a son of the late Roscoe William Smith and Mary Foxie Robinson Woodard. Doug grew up in Durhing, WV on Siani Mountain for most of his life. He attended Montcalm High School and graduated in 1963. After graduation, he attended Concord University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1978. He then decided he would further his education by attending the West Virginia College of Graduates with a Master of Arts degree. Doug taught at Van High School in Boone County until his retirement. Doug became a mentor for many teens who wanted to learn about Information Technology. He enjoyed talking walks, especially in the peace of wooded areas. Doug loved to travel and in 2016 he took a trip across the country to California. He went on a mission trip in which he helped install a soccer field for the children in that area.

In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by one brother, William Smith.

Those left to cherish and carry on his loving memory are Nicholas Huff. Nicholas was a cousin to Doug, but Doug took him in and loved him, cared for him, and helped raise him as a son. He is also survived by a host of cousins who loved him dearly.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 12PM-1PM at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV. Funeral services will begin at 1PM with Pastor Gerald Roberts of Global Methodist Church officiating. Committal services will immediately follow in Roselawn Cemetery.
