Obituary

Douglas Manuel Carter, 93, of Bluefield, West Virginia transitioned this life at his residence on Friday, March 21, 2025. Douglas, the second of three sons, was born on August 16, 1931, in Pulaski, VA to Lula Finley Pool Carter. He attended Genoa School in Bluefield, WV. At an early age, he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1947. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Bluefield, WV, serving on the Trustee and Deacon Boards.

Douglas' professional career spanned more than seventy-five years. He began as a custodian working for the National Electric Coil Company and retired as chief inspector. In addition to his professional career, he was the property-owner and manager for more than twenty residential units in the Bluefield, WV area.

In his social time, Douglas enjoyed bowling in many leagues. He was a board member of the National Employees Federal Credit Union. For countless years, during primary and general elections he fulfilled his civic obligation by working for the Mercer County Elections Division. He also enjoyed working on analog televisions for neighbors, family, and friends.

Douglas took immense pride in his family and their accomplishments. He often shared his adoration of children, and the number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren he had. In addition to his mother, Lula Finley Pool Carter, he was proceeded in death by his brother, Ponce D.Moss, and his first wife of fifty-five years, and mother of his children, Agnes Eudora Johnson Carter.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dameta Giles Brown-Carter of Bluefield, WV, brother Donald (Marcia) Carter of Coppell, TX, children Douglas Carter, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Jeanine B. Carter-Williams of Upper Marlboro, MD, Chauncy E. Carter, Sr. of Winston Salem, NC, Ceasar B. (Melba) Carter, Sr. of Bluefield, WV, Jerome L. (Barbara) Carter, Sr. of Kissimmee, FL, and Peccola (Jerry) Carter Marsh, of Rock Hill, SC, and his extended family, Jerrald (Heather) and Jacqai Long of Hurricane, WV, sixteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 29, 2025 from 11:00AM-12:00PM at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV. Homegoing service will begin at 12:00PM with the committal service and military honors immediately following.
