Charles Philips, Jr. 89 of Princeton, WV passed away Monday, January 27, 2025 in Princeton, WV. Born September 22, 1935 he was a son to the late Charlie Phillips and Atlas Randolph Phillips. Charles lived in North Carolina most of his teenage years until he settled in West Virginia when he married his wife of 67 years, Freda Phillips. Charles worked as a tipple operator at the mines in Jenkin Jones until he retired and enjoyed telling stories about his work. Every spring and summer he would have two gardens full of vegetables that he loved tending to. Charles liked going to flea markets specifically to find good deals on knives and guns and he spent lots of time working on cars and small things that he could fix himself. Later in life, he began to really enjoy watching old western shows and movies. Although he had many hobbies and things he enjoyed, there was nothing he loved more than having his grandchildren and great grandchildren come to visit. In addition to his parents, Charles in preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Freda; a grandchild, Billy Joe "BJ"; brother, Clayman Phillips; sisters, Edith Hensley, Cleo Robinson, Ruth Johnson; daughter in law, Lee Song Sun and several nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Greg Phillips, Jeff Phillips (Nina), Rodney "Dean" Phillips (Lisa); daughter, Melissa Bibey (Billy); sisters in law, Carol Hutton (Conway), Yvonne Phillips; brother in law, Jessie Billips; grandchildren, Cynthia Lucas (John), Jennifer Phillips, Elizabeth Halman (Ben), Jeffrey Phillips, Kristina Phillips, Kathy Phillips, Xena Bibey and Challen Bibey; great grandchildren, Oliver and Elliott Lucas, and Parker Halman.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV from 12:00-1:00PM. Funeral services will begin at 1:00PM with the Reverend Laurel A. Farmer of Ridgeview Church of God in Rock, WV officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Lynn Bailey, Jeffrey Phillips, Challen Bibey, Xena Bibey, Ryan Hodge, and Chris Lowrance.
