Charles William Davis, 74, of Thorpe, WV passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV. Charles was born July 7, 1948, in Filbert, WV, the son of the late James and Lydia Davis. Charles graduated from Gary High School in 1966. Following graduation, he gained employment with US Steel. Charles worked as a master electrician with US Steel for 24 years, working at various coal mines. Following his employment with US Steel, Charles became a Foreman for Angus Mining in Caretta, WV. He also attended Bluefield State College, WVU, and received certification in micro and peripheral computer services. Charles married the love of his life, Judy Ashley Davis in 1968. They celebrated 54 years of marriage in March. Charles was a faithful member to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Welch WV. Family and music were Charles's greatest passions in life. He began to play the dobro at the age of 8. Along with his father and brother, Charles was a member of the Buckhorn Mountain boys. He especially enjoyed performing at Saturday night jamborees and the Jerry Lewis March of Dimes telethon. During this time the banjo became Charles favorite instrument to play. Through the years, Charles was a member of Country Gentleman, Swing Kings, Fancy Free, Horizon, and Right Touch. In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his sister, Rebecca (Becky) Lineberry and a special aunt, Marian Shatley. Left to cherish Charles' loving memory, in addition to his loving wife, Judy Carol Davis, are his son Charles Ashley (Kimberly) Davis, of Pulaski, VA; four grandchildren, Ashton (Chaz) Chinault, Katelyn Davis, Nick (Hayley) Arnold, and Jessica (Terry) Isaacs; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas E. Davis of Roanoke, VA; sister, Doris Davidson of Bristol, VA; special brother-in-law, Dean Brown of Ft. Myers, FL; his loving and faithful service dog Cokee; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held 1pm Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Roselawn Funeral Home, 450 Courthouse Rd. Princeton, WV 24740, with Ed Laxton, Branch President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, officiating. Friends may visit with the family at 12pm until the service hour.
