Carolyn Lee Sharousky Donchatz, 82, of Columbia SC, passed away peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning, August 6, 2023. Born July 7th, 1941 to Andrew and Margaret Sharousky, Carloyn grew up in Vivian, West Virginia. She graduated from Welch High School in 1959 and continued her studies in education at Marshall University and Bluefield State College. After graduating with a degree in education, she went on to earn a Master of Science in Education from Radford University beginning her astonishing, half-century career in teaching. An honorable career she adored her whole life, Carolyn, post retirement, was a passionate substitute and enjoyed inquiring about her grandchildren's required readings for English class.
Reunited at a Mcdowell County drive-in after college and the Air Force separated childhood friends, Carolyn and Charles "Bud" Donchatz married in 1964 and were married for nearly 60 years. In her life, Carolyn built a family that will greatly miss her smarts, her stardom, and her smile.
Survived by her sister Bonnie Lawson, husband Charles, daughters Monica Miller and Stephaine Oberempt, (son-in-law Michael Oberempt), and grandchildren: Alexandra, Kathryn, Adam, and Matthew, Carolyn had many names including beloved mother, teacher, and Nana.
Funeral services will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia on Friday, August 11 at 12pm.
