Candy Lee Blevins, age 66, stepped through Heaven's Gates on January 2, 2025. Born on June 30, 1958, to Alex and Anne Saavedra in Fort Worth, Texas, Candy grew up in Athens, West Virginia where she graduated from Athens High School and was a straight A and Honors student.  She attended WVU in Morganton where she graduated with a BSN degree in 1981.  She then went on and gained an MSN at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  Candy was an ER nurse and nursing educator with a career spanning 42 years.  Nursing was her passion and calling and she truly loved to help those in need and care.  Candy was also a social butterfly and was always there for others.  She had a love for animals and truly loved her pets, Elijah, Victoria, Madison, Lily, Emma, and Hank.  Candy had many interests and hobbies in her life as well including crochet, music, shopping, trips to Disney World and especially being with her family and friends.  She also served as President of Sigma Theta Tau Gamma lota Chapter and was also a member of the National Nursing Association.

Along with her parents, Candy is preceded in death by her brother, Alan Saavedra; and uncles, Levy Cruise II, and Tommy Cruise.  She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Blevins; sons, Christopher Blevins and Chad Blevins; and brother, Carl Saavedra.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe, located at 204 South Main Street, Monroe, North Carolina. A Celebration of Life for Candy will then be held following the visitation at 7:15 pm in the McEwen Colonial Chapel.  A future service and burial will be held later at Roselawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Princeton, West Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be made to The American Diabetes Association, The National Kidney Foundation, and The American Society for The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
