Obituary

Billie Junior Umberger, 94, of Princeton, West Virginia died peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023.   He was born March 26, 1929 in Princeton, West Virginia to the late William Kent and Velva Marie Ray Umberger.  Bill was predeceased by his sisters, Nancy Umberger Harvey (Elmer), Mary Frances Umberger Simons (Gail), brother, Bob Umberger (Katherine) and nephew, David Harvey.

Bill Umberger, a lifelong resident of Princeton, West Virginia, graduated Princeton High School in 1947.  He served his country during World War II in France as a member of the US Air Corps.   In 1957, he married Macie Ann Morre.  They attended church at the First Assembly of God on New Hope Road.

Bill was employed by the City of Princeton as a laborer, doing whatever was needed.  After serving the City of Princeton for 30 years, he retired to enjoy his hobbies which included hunting, fishing, bow shooting and working crossword puzzles.

In his younger years, Bill served as the president of the Princeton Archery Club.  As a bowman, he won many West Virginia titles such as West Virginia's 1972 State Open Archery Championship.

A lover of nature, Bill enjoyed the grandeur of West Virginia's natural beauty and wildlife.  He also was a cat lover and left behind Willow "Kitty Babe", who kept him company in his last years.

Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years, Macie Ann Moore Umberger of Princeton, and sister-in-law, Sarah Winfrey.  Also left to cherish his memory are nephew, Jerry Simons and wife, Jackie, nieces, Kathy Umberger and Donna Fisher.

He will be missed by his special caregivers, Jo Ann Gaspersich, Deborah Green, Twila Johnson, Kara Shrewsbury, and Adrianna Thompson.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 1:00 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, West Virginia with Pastor Larry Dyer officiating.  Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour (12:00)  prior to services.

Pallbearers are:  Logan Angell, Danny Buckner, Michael Flanigan, Danny Slade, Lacy Kessinger, and Rick Wyatt.
