Benny Wayne Croy, 85, of Princeton, WV, died peacefully early Thursday morning, July 8, 2021, at Raleigh General Hospital in Beckley, WV with his family at his side. Born April 18, 1936 in Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Walter W. Croy and Dora (Lawson) Croy. He was a graduate of Bluefield High School, class of 1954, 40 year member of the Farm Bureau, member of Greenview United Methodist Church, veteran of the U.S. Army with rank of SP5 E5 and served at Headquarters Troop 3D Reconnaissance Squadron, 150th Armored Calvary, received decorations for sharpshooter rifle and carbine.
He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic in southern WV. Benny spent most of his adult life as a dedicated racing enthusiast, building his own cars and racing in four states on the dirt track circuit, spent a lot of his time farming and tending to his garden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Kenneth G. Croy, Arnold B. Croy, Paul Croy; sisters Elsie Croy, Ruth Adams and Louise Wiley. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Burma Taylor Croy; son Bradford W. Croy of Los Angeles, CA; grandson Johnanthan Croy of Princeton, WV; sisters Shirley Arvai of Green Valley, Betty Yost (twin) of Thomasville, NC and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15th, 11:00am at Greenview United Methodist Church with Rev. Marva Smearman officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Roselawn Cemetery. The visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday at Roselawn Funeral Home, Princeton.In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Greenview United Methodist Church (General Fund) 600 Blue Prince Road, Bluefield, WV.
