On April 12, 2026, Barry Dean Boyd, of Matoaka, WV passed away at the age of 70, after a heroic battle against multiple health issues. He was born May 25, 1955, to Wilbur and Clara Boyd in Albuquerque, NM.

Barry was a devoted Christian family man who was highly intelligent; he received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Appalachian State University (ASU) while also working full time in ASU's Food Service and raising a family. Upon graduation, Barry began his career as an actuary in the insurance field. Barry had a quirky and quick-witted sense of humor and was a card shark and enjoyed always winning at card games.

Barry is survived by his two loving daughters; Alison and Sarah and his seven grandchildren; Clint, Hailey, Grayson, Taylor, Jalen, Isaiah and Mary; and one grandchild Elizabeth. He is also survived by his loving stepmother Betty Boyd; his three sisters, Roxanne, Suzie and Darlene; and his brothers Gary and Ron. He is proceeded in death by his parents Wilbur and Clara and the love of his life, his wife Karen.

Due to his struggle with multiple illnesses, Barry had his body donated to science in the hope that he could play a small part in the future cures for his illnesses. Barry discovered that his body possessed a cancer-causing gene and that this gene has been passed onto his children. This has been evidenced by the sad fact that both of Barry's daughters now are battling cancers. Barry would sincerely and greatly appreciate that in lieu of flowers, donations would be made to the provided Go Fund Me site for his daughter's dire fight against cancer.
