Barbara Hale McCarty, age 74, passed peacefully from this life into Heaven on October 26, 2023. Born October 20,1949 at Falls Mills, Virginia, she was the youngest of six children born to Clarence Hale and Louise Carbaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Sammy Hale, Clarence "Rooster" Hale Jr., McGinnis "Pig" Hale, Charles "CD" Hale and sister Laura Ferguson.
Barbara graduated from Castlewood High School in Castlewood, Virginia in 1968. In 1976 she was accepted into the Bluefield State College Nursing Program graduating in 1978 with an Associate Degree in Nursing. In 1977, she met the man she would spend the next 46 years with,
L. J. "Mac" McCarty. At that time, she was working two part time jobs while being a full-time student at Bluefield State College. Mac and Barbara were married on August 27, 1977 having an outdoor wedding at Christian Acres.
After graduation from Bluefield State, Barbara was an Emergency Room Nurse at the old Bluefield Sanitarium Clinic. When the new BRMC opened she continued to work in the E.R. while attaining her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Bluefield State. Barbara continued her education completing a Master's Degree in the Science of Nursing through Bellarmine College in Louisville, Kentucky in 1995.
Barbara was employed by BRMC for 33 years and at the time of her retirement she was the Vice President of Nursing Administration. Barbara loved her nurses, they were a very close knit group. Barbara always stressed patient care was their most important goal. She and her nursing team worked very hard to make BRMC the best hospital in Southern West Virginia. She was very proud of all the nurses and doctors she had the privilege of working with during her tenure there.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 46 years Mac McCarty, a cherished son, Jeremy Seth McCarty and wife Michelle, grandchildren Samantha McCarty Hillman and husband Seth and her pride and joy, Landon Seth McCarty more affectionately known as Biggles.
The family will receive friends and family from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Roselawn Chapel located at 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, West Virginia. A funeral will be held at the Falls Mills Christian Church in Falls Mills, Virginia on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at
2 p.m. with ministers Ron Tabor and Rick Mathena officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Hale, Shannon Hale, Eddie Hale, Rob Hale, Mike Hale and Jonce Leedy II.
