Mrs. Alvie Lorena Pettrey, 97, of Connelly Springs, NC passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 following a period of declining health.
Alvie was born June 14, 1923 in Mercer County, WV to the late Dewey Alvin Higginbotham and Mary Edith Gearhart Higginbotham. She was a member of South Mountain Freedom Worship Center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Pettrey; infant sons, George Washington Pettrey, Jr., and Roger Lee Pettrey; son, Billy Ray Pettrey, son-in-law, Everette Johnson; and siblings, Loretta Dinger, George Dinger, and Jack Higginbotham.
Survivors include her children, Carolyn Church and husband Clyde of Connelly Springs, and Brenda Johnson of Ronda, NC , daughter-in-law Pansy Pettrey of Princeton, WV; grandchildren, Rebecca Whisnant and husband John of Connelly Springs, Wayne Pettrey and wife Sandy of Dobson, NC, Regina Taylor and husband Mark of Connelly Springs, Janice Wilcox and husband Greg of Hiddenite, NC, Renea Goff and husband Chris of Lawndale, Stephen Johnson of Ronda, NC, David Church and wife Megan of Connelly Springs, Zack Church and wife Michelle of Colorado, and Billy Joe Church of Morganton; great grandchildren, Justin Whisnant and wife Alison of Georgia, Autumn Deppner and husband Edward of Mt. Airy, NC, Wendy Whisnant of Connelly Springs, NC, Ivy Whisnant of Connelly Springs, NC, Brittany Taylor of Connelly Springs, NC, Austin Pettrey and wife Jessica of Dobson, NC, Mitchell Whisnant of Connelly Springs, and Gavin Goff of Lawndale, Paraleigh Goff of Lawndale, NC, Zoe Goff of Lawndale, Rose Wilcox of Hiddenite, NC, Layla Johnson of Ronda, NC and David Wilcox of Hiddenite, NC; and one great great grandchild, Toby Pettrey of Dobson.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2020 from 12:00PM to 1:00PM at Roselawn Funeral Home in Princeton, WV.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton, WV with Wayne Pettrey, Stephen Johnson, David Church, Austin Pettrey, Mitchell Whisnant, and Gavin Goff serving as pallbearers.
